This lesson was originally made for Level 3 Year 1 unit ‘Live Music Performance’, however this is applicable to any students looking to pursue a career in live music performance. In this lesson we discuss what an open mic event is, what the benefits are of these and how to join them, as well as what to consider within your performance at these events. Within this, students are set a task of analysing what songs they already know/perform, and identify which 2 to 3 songs would be most suitable for an open mic event. We also discuss the purpose of a live music performance contract, what to include in them and their importance in safeguarding your income as a performer. The learners are also set a task to create their own contracts for a scenario, using an online performance contract template.
